Spring cleaning: clean the pump

Finally, the cold will pass, the air will be filled with the scent of flowers, and you will be ready to go through things in the closet and clean up the house. How about organizing supplies and cleaning your insulin pump?

My pump is usually kept clean as I carry it in a special case. But sometimes I still have to clean the pump, for example, after a bad application of sunscreen or spaghetti sauce on the pump. It is for such cases that there are instructions for cleaning the pump.

Let’s start with what not to do.

DO NOT USE TO CLEAN YOUR PUMP:

1. Organic solvents (eg, lighter fluid, nail polish remover, paint thinner, and lubricants )
2. Household products (eg, cleaning sprays and lotions, hand sanitizer).

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR PUMP CORRECTLY:

1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
2. Moisten a cloth with water mixed with a mild cleanser to clean the outer casing of the pump. Do not place the pump under running water or immerse it in liquid.
3. Use a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining cleanser from your pump.
4. Dry with a cleaning cloth.
5. Keep water out of reservoir and battery compartments.
6. Use a wipe soaked in 70% alcohol to disinfect your pump.
7. Use a dry, clean cotton swab to clean the battery cover of any traces of batteries.
8. Use a dry, clean cloth to clean the battery compartment of any traces of batteries.

Now that spring is in the yard, not only your house will be clean, but also the pump. It’s simple!
