Severe hypoglycemia is an emergency. It is impossible to be “prepared” for it. But you can play it safe yourself and leave clues to others about the necessary actions.
1.Carefully monitor the level of glycemia. If you are prone to lower sugar, then you need to identify the cause of this effect. First of all, discuss this point with your doctor and adjust the dose of insulin or hypoglycemic drugs.
2. If available, purchase a glucose monitoring system with a hypoglycemic alert. Some models of insulin pumps also have a function to monitor blood sugar fluctuations and the ability to alert in critical situations.
3.Check the accuracy of your meter . This is rare, but it happens. False glucometer readings can be very harmful. You will be sure that everything is in order when the situation calls for intervention.
4. Get a medical ID and carry it with you at all times. Of course, in addition to this, it would be nice to have some kind of note, for example, in your wallet, what to do if you feel bad. Unfortunately, in most cases, people around think that if a person has diabetes, then insulin is needed in any situation.
5. Keep glucagon with you. An ampoule in a case with instructions should always be with you and in a place where it can be easily found. Keep track of the expiration date of the drug. Tell relatives and colleagues about what it is and how it should be administered, if the child has diabetes, then this knowledge should be conveyed to teachers.
Important! If you feel that something is wrong with sugars, in no case engage in activities in which you can be dangerous both to yourself and to others. We are talking about driving, performing responsible work, for example, if your work is related to technology, etc. First, make sure that the sugars have returned to normal.
