Sensor care in the summer months: questions and answers
Choosing a location for a glucose sensor depends on many factors: clothing, comfort, personal preference, previous experience. It is generally recommended to avoid areas on the body where an infusion set has recently been placed. Most patients choose to place the sensor in the abdomen. But there are those who prefer the upper part of the buttocks, since this area is the least subject to friction from clothing.
In the summer, when you want to wear open things and get an even tan, the buttocks area is the best place to install the sensor. It’s discreet and convenient!
How do high temperatures affect the sensor during the summer months?
Due to the high ambient temperature during the summer months, sweating increases. Therefore, make sure that the sensor does not come off and does not move. For a more secure fixation, you can use additional plasters and teips. Better if they are breathable.
If you are traveling to hot countries, don’t worry! Excessive heat does NOT affect sensor use or glucose measurement. The main thing – do not forget about the water balance. Drink water and stay hydrated.
Important to know: new sensors should be stored at temperatures no higher than 31ºC. Therefore, keep a strategic supply of sensors in a dry and cool place.
