How to test yourself for diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is a serious, common disease. To exclude the possibility of the presence of pathology, it is necessary to pass a diabetes test in a medical institution. Pay attention to the presence of the main symptoms of the disease. Despite the division of the pathology into several types, there are signs of diabetes that are often found in type 1 and type 2 diabetes. At the early stage, frequent urination is noted, including at night. It is possible that dehydration is associated with fluid loss. The skin on the face becomes drier, the elasticity of the epithelium decreases, and dry mouth occurs. A person is almost always thirsty.

Often diabetes is accompanied by increased appetite. However, a large amount of food does not bring relief. Feel constant fatigue, irritability, decreased attention span? Check for diabetes! Also, one of the signs of the disease at an early stage is temporary visual impairment. With the further development of pathology, damage to the nerves of the feet and hands appears, which is expressed in the presence of “goose bumps”, numbness and cold. Often at night, when the legs are at rest, cramps occur.

Signs of diabetes in severe illness include a persistent decrease in vision and the formation of non-healing cracks and ulcers on the legs. Treatment will help to avoid blindness and amputation of limbs. In the presence of a part of the listed symptoms, it is necessary to check for diabetes by contacting the local GP or endocrinologist. The disease is diagnosed by the results of a blood and urine test for glucose.

Donate fasting and after eating. This will reveal the difference between the indicators. Blood and urine samples will have to be taken several times. Normally, the blood sugar is in the range of 70-99 mg / dl. If glucose levels range from 100 to 125 mg / dl, there is a predisposition to the disease. A reading above 126 mg / dl indicates the presence of diabetes mellitus.

Take a glucose tolerance test lasting 3 hours. A nurse will take a blood sample for analysis. Then, drink the glucose solution and donate blood again after 2 hours. In this case, a blood sugar level of up to 139 mg / dl is considered normal. From 149 to 200 mg / dl is a prediabetic state. Above 200 – diabetes.
